Full Event Report

The Financial Times Business Championship Grand Finals took place from 18th - 21st October at the Oceânico Faldo Course, part of the luxury Amendoeira Golf Resort in the Algarve.

The twelve winning teams from each of the qualifying events travelled to Portugal, courtesy of Monarch Airline, in a bid to become 2009 champions of the event.  Finalists enjoyed the fantastic hospitality on the Sunday playing a relaxed practice round on the Oceânico Faldo Course before enjoying a Welcome BBQ evening.  Championship ambassador David Howell attended the evening to share a few stories of his Ryder Cup experiences with the group.

On Day One, Eagle Executive Travel soared into the lead with a total of 83 points, having taken full advantage of the warm, sunny conditions.  Williams Tarr followed closely on 82 points with defending champions Wise & Co in third place on 81 points.

Conditions on Day Two were not as kind, with wind and rain providing a tough test of golf.  Wise and Co posted an incredible score of 79 points for Day Two giving them a total of 160 points for the championship.  Overnight leaders Eagle Executive Travel, playing in the final group with Williams Tarr, posted 65 points for Day Two and a total of 148 points.  With Williams Tarr also scoring 65 points on Day Two and a total score of 147 points, this meant that for the first time in the championship's history, the title was successfully defended with Wise & Co taking the title.  Prizes from the luxury dunhill collection were awareded to teams finishing in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, with nearest the pin and longest drive prizes provided by Callaway Golf.

Our thanks go to all of this year's sponsors including title sponsors Financial Times, Oceânico Group for their wonderful hospitality at the Finals, Jaguar as co-sponsors of the event, Monarch Airline as Official Flight Sponsor, Dunhill for providing prizes for the qualifying event and the Grand Finals, Callaway Golf for providing Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive prizes for the qualifying events and Grand Finals as well as golf balls for all competitors and Solar Sport who provided water during the Grand Finals as well as sunscreen and gift packs for the winning teams.
